A Message From Amy

 

Congratulations on entering this stage of your career! Finding the right clinical supervisor is vital to your growth so I do not take this responsibility lightly. I encourage you to read over my supervision professional disclosure and email me with any questions you may have.

 

In addition to my professional disclosure, it may be helpful to know a little about my career path and the various populations which I have worked with. I began working in the mental health field with marginalized populations, often those in lower socioeconomic groups, chronically and persistently mental ill adults, adolescents involved with the department of juvenile justice, and children who had been placed in the foster care system. It is during this time that I began to specialize in trauma and have since become an expert in the trauma field. One thing I have observed repeatedly in graduate school programs is the lack of education on trauma and the associated theories and treatment modalities.  If you are interested in expanding in this area, we would make a great team. 

 

I also have extensive experience with self-injurious behavior and eating disorders, other topics that are often overlooked in your formal education, making me an appropriate clinical supervisor for those interested in these mental health concerns. 

 

Additional unique aspects about my clinical work that overlap with my work as a clinical supervisor are my strengths in clinical assessments and diagnosis. If I am being honest, some of my pet peeves are clinical mental health assessments that are not thorough, often resulting in misdiagnosis.  I am also well versed in feminist theory and have a very strong appreciation for the absence of assessment and diagnosis which tends to be my preference.  Although this is my preference, I strongly believe strong assessment skills are necessary for all clinicians to master.
